Dear choir students,
It is my pleasure to serve you again as your choral music teacher at CV for the ninth year! I look forward to making great music with you this year! I congratulate you on your decision to join one of the fine choirs we have here at CV. I look forward to continuing a tradition of excellence in choral music dating back to our school’s founding in 1960. Choir allows you to develop a love for music and develop your musical skills, knowledge, and understanding. Additionally, choir can expand your social horizons, allowing you to develop your skills in teamwork, cooperation, responsibility, and professionalism. Each student is expected to bring his or her personal best every day to choir!
All my best!
Mr. Shannon W. Mack

About our choirs
Under the directorships of Shirley Nute, Kerry Burtis, Claire Rowan, Tammi Alderman, and Shannon Mack, CV choirs have performed at local, regional, and national festivals, achieving high honors at all levels. Choirs have also toured the United States and Europe. In March 2013, members of the CV choirs toured Rome, Florence, and Venice, Italy where they sang mass at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Most recently, CV choirs were invited by composer Sydney Guillaume to perform at a festival of his music at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City in April 2016.
All choirs perform three major concerts per year: the Feast of Lights holiday concert, the Spring Concert, and the Pops Concert (recent Pops themes have included “Broadway Melodies,” “Welcome to the ‘60s!,” “Hollywood Nights,” “A Disney Evening," “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!,” and "Back to Broadway"). This year's theme is “Another Day of Sun: Songs About Weather.” In addition to the concerts, all choirs perform in at least one adjudicated festival per year. The advanced chamber choir, Charismatics, gives many Christmas caroling performances in the month of December and sings the Star-Spangled Banner for nearly every major school and community event. Charismatics is among the most highly regarded and in-demand non-professional choirs in the area.
The department consists of four curricular choirs and two extra-curricular choirs:
Concert Choir (CC): an auditioned, intermediate women's chorus consisting of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This choir meets period two.
Men's Ensemble (ME): a non-auditioned, beginning men's chorus open to all grade levels. This choir meets period three.
Charismatics Chamber Choir (CHAR): an auditioned, advanced mixed chamber choir consisting of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This choir meets period four.
Women's Ensemble (WE): a non-auditioned, beginning women's chorus open to all grade levels. This choir meets period five.
Belles: an auditioned, entirely student-run, advanced women's ensemble consisting of approximately 7-10 singers. Rehearsals take place entirely outside of class time.
Harmonix: an auditioned, entirely student-run, advanced mixed ensemble consisting of approximately 7-10 singers. Rehearsals take place entirely outside of class time. Repertoire is oriented toward vocal jazz and popular A Cappella.
